2024-2025 Jazz Band Audition Info/Rehearsal Schedule
Below contains information regarding Jazz Band auditions. The philosophy of JC Jazz is that there is a place for students of all skill levels within our jazz program. Auditions are required for placement into a JCHS Jazz Ensemble. The number of jazz ensembles will be determined by instrumentation and the number of students auditioning.
Students will learn the audition excerpt "Proxy," and then record themselves (in view of camera) performing along with the background track. This can be done from any speaker loud enough to be heard on the video file submitted. Students will then upload their video (after editing together) to this google form.
Deadline to Submit: Sunday, November 10th

Results will be posted by Monday, November 11th. First rehearsal is November 12th.
AUDITION INFORMATION
Winds (Saxes, Trumpet, and Trombone) + Piano, Guitar, Bass, Aux Percussion:
1. Scales - Choose 2 scales (one Blues Scale, one Dorian Scale) and perform one octave minimum. Swing style with metronome at 120 bpm. Bonus points awarded for additional octaves & scales performed.

2. Perform the jazz excerpt Proxy , Measures 1-31 with the "Proxy Audition Track." Play the solo as written. Use the "Proxy Practice Track" to hear your part. Additional points earned if you prepare beyond the first 31 measures.

Drumset:
1. Perform the following Grooves (16 Measures of Each), without a metronome:
- Medium Swing w/Sticks Quarter Note = 112
- Bossa Nova Quarter Note = 132
- Up-Tempo Swing w/Sticks Half Note = 112
2. Perform the bracketed portions of the excerpts provided for drum set. Use the reference recordings for feel and fills.
